Wainscoting

Wainscoting was originally used in 16th century England and other parts of Europe to cover the lower part of walls that so they could better resist dampness and traffic wear and tear. Its rich linear patterns are now used to add a sense of history and charm to important rooms and passages in today’s homes and offices.

Traditionally the application of wainscoting has been an elaborate process requiring highly-skilled craftsman. Wainscoting materials include panel moulds, backer sheets and chair rails—many available in both stain grade and paint grade.
